Which Air Stone do You Need?
The air stone you need depends entirely on your tank and air flow rate.
Which one's right for you?
Find out now - read our blog post - there's a video, too!
What to Look for in an air stone
A good air stone will give you:
More bubbles
- A mixture of large and small bubbles
- A wide spread of bubbles
Remember, the larger your pot, the greater your air flow needs to be. Make sure you pick the right air stone for your air flow.

What we did
We put our 3 favourite air stones to the test (in an XL Oxypot):
The aim? To find out which one was best for each air flow rate! We were looking specifically for:
- Bubble size
- Bubble Distribution
What we found
2.5 Litre p/m:
The Golf Ball was by far the best, there just wasn’t enough air for the larger two stones.
5 Litres p/m:
All worked well
6.6 Litres – 10 Litres p/m
The Coke Can & Ceramic Disc were fab – the bubble distribution from the Golf Ball Air Stone just wasn’t as good.
Don't forget to pre-soak your air stones
Don’t expect your air stone to bubble brilliantly straight away – it can take up to 48 hours before they really get going.
