Which air flow is right for you?
Every hour your Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan operates, it should be able to shift a certain amount of air, with a number of factors having a bearing here, like the shape and size of your grow room and the quantity, power and type of lighting being operated. Now, don’t worry if this sounds confusing – a rough guide to finding a suitable model is outlined below:
- 100mm (4”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (165m3/hour or 198m3/hour) – up to 1 x 400W light
- 125mm (5”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (248m3/hour or 284m3/hour) – up to 1 x 600W light
- 150mm (6”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (410m3/hour or 530m3/hour) – up to 2 x 600W lights
- 200mm (8”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (530m3/hour or 690m3/hour) – up to 4 x 600W lights
- 250mm (10") Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (1064m3/hour or 1405m3/hour) - up to 8 x 600W lights
- 315mm (12") Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (1750m3/hour or 2206m3/hour) - up to 16 x 600W lights
Which carbon filter works best with your fan?
When you decide to purchase the individual components of an extraction system, you must ensure your Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan and the intended carbon filter and ducting are compatible. Again, see the list below for our suggestions:
- 100mm (4”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (165m3/hour or 198m3/hour) + 100mm (4”) BAY6 Carbon Filter – 300mm length (max air flow 350m3/hour)
- 125mm (5”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (248m3/hour or 284m3/hour) + 125mm (5”) BAY6 Carbon Filter – 300mm length (max air flow 430m3/hour)
- 150mm (6”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (410m3/hour or 530m3/hour) + 150mm (6”) BAY6 Carbon Filter – 300mm length (max air flow 470m3/hour)
- 200mm (8”) Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan (530m3/hour or 690m3/hour) + 200mm (8”) BAY6 Carbon Filter – 600mm length (max air flow 1125m3/hour)
What is needed to create an extraction system?
To create a complete extraction system, combine your Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan with the following products (in suitable sizes):
- Carbon filter – which stops unpleasant odours leaving the grow space
- Length of ducting – which carries and directs the air
- Duct clips – which are used to connect ducting to the exhaust end of your fan and sometimes to connect ducting between the intake end of your fan and filter
- Fast clamp – which is used to connect the intake end of your fan and filter in the most secure way possible
- Hanging accessories – which usually consists of a combination of chain and s-hooks or alternatively rope ratchets (recommended)
- Fan speed controller – which is not essential, but does prove the best way to manage your extractor fan
How do you piece together an extraction system?
Broadly speaking, there are two options for configuring an extraction system:
1.) Carbon Filter > Fast Clap > Extractor Fan > Duct Clip > Ducting (recommended)
2.) Carbon Filter > Duct Clip > Ducting (short) > Duct Clip > Extractor Fan > Duct Clip > Ducting
Where should you locate your extraction system?
In terms of where to locate your extraction system, we recommend hanging it at the top of the growing area, with the air exiting the tent or room from an opposite corner of where you intend to bring fresh air in – typically via an intake fan or open vent(s) positioned low down. This arrangement prevents you from immediately extracting away the fresher air coming in.
For best results and the most effective ventilation setup, you should draw in around 20% less air than you extract. In a tent, this stops air seeping out before it’s been through your filter. Users of small-to-medium sized tents can get away with just opening up the vents to allow enough air in, but we recommend installing an active intake system for tents measuring 1.2m x 2.4m and above. A Mammoth TT Twin Speed Inline Fan will work well for this task too – simply pick the model below your extractor fan and combine with suitable sized lengths of ducting and duct clips.
