Tropic All Mix 50L is a rich, ready-to-use growing medium designed for established plants that are ready for a stronger nutrient charge.
It combines different grades of peat with perlite, limestone, organic fertilisation and microbial ingredients, creating a balanced soil that holds moisture while still allowing plenty of drainage and air around the roots.
With a stated pH of 5.5, EC of 1.0 and RHP certification, Tropic All Mix gives you a consistent, pre-fertilised substrate straight from the bag – without the premium price attached to some comparable soils.
The main reason to choose an All Mix is simple: there's already useful nutrition in the substrate.
When an established plant is moved into fresh Tropic All Mix, it can begin drawing from that nutrient reserve while the roots spread into the new pot.
That means you don't normally need to introduce a full-strength bottled feeding programme immediately after transplanting.
As a broad guide, the initial charge can support plants for around four weeks, but don't use the calendar as your only guide. A small plant in a large volume of fresh soil will use that nutrition much more slowly than a large, heavily established plant.
Watch how the plant responds and introduce additional feed when it's actually required.
It comes down to how much control you want over feeding from the start.
Tropic All Mix contains the stronger nutrient charge. We'd choose it for established plants where you want the soil to provide a meaningful amount of nutrition after potting up.
A Light Mix starts much more gently, giving you more control over what goes into the root zone through bottled nutrients from an earlier stage.
If you're potting up an established root system and want a straightforward soil grow, All Mix is the easier option.
A rich soil still needs to drain properly.
Tropic All Mix uses a combination of peat and perlite to balance moisture retention with root-zone aeration.
The peat holds water and nutrition throughout the pot, while the perlite creates additional spaces for excess water to drain and fresh oxygen to return to the root zone.
That structure becomes particularly important after watering. Rather than keeping the substrate permanently saturated, allow the soil to move through a sensible wet-and-dry cycle before watering again.
Because All Mix already carries a relatively strong nutrient charge, we'd generally use it when plants have an established root system rather than treating it as a delicate propagation medium.
When potting up, give the roots room to expand into the fresh substrate and let the nutrition already in the soil do its job before reaching for additional fertiliser.
This is where All Mix earns its keep: less intervention early on and a very straightforward start after transplanting.
Once the initial nutrition in Tropic All Mix starts to run down, we'd pair it with the Shogun Complete Soil Nutrient Kit.
The kit is built around Shogun Samurai Terra Grow and Samurai Terra Bloom, with the supporting root, plant-strength and flowering products needed to build a complete soil feeding programme.
It's a natural match for Tropic All Mix: let the substrate take care of the early nutrition, then bring the Shogun programme in as plant demand increases.
If you want a richer soil that takes some of the feeding work off your hands, Tropic All Mix makes a lot of sense.
It's ready to use, has plenty of initial nutrition and still includes enough perlite to keep the structure from becoming overly heavy.
Where we'd choose it over Light Mix is with established plants. Instead of transplanting into a lightly fertilised medium and immediately having to think about feed strength, All Mix gives you a useful nutrient reserve to work through first.
At 50 litres per bag, it's also a very sensible option when you're filling several pots and don't want your growing media to become one of the most expensive parts of the setup.
When that initial feed starts running down, move onto the Shogun Complete Soil Nutrient Kit for a straightforward soil feeding programme through the rest of the cycle.
Don't feed heavily just because you've transplanted into a bigger pot. Tropic All Mix already contains a useful nutrient charge, so let the plant use what's available in the soil first. As demand increases, introduce your Shogun soil feeding programme gradually rather than piling extra nutrition into an already rich substrate.
